I went to the auto body apprenticeship office today to pick up my test information. They gave me an outline from the auto body repair school / college that breaks down the course. There will be three test to pass before getting my license and then an optional test for an inter-provincial license called the CFQ. This is the information I got, the books are called Auto Body Repaired (phase 1 & 2) for Auto Body and Collision Damage Repair Apprentice and for Auto Body Repair Apprentice. The books are specific to Ontario but I\'m sure the courses are pretty close for any Auto Body Repair School.
So as I said there is three test, the first one I found the information from the Phase 1 Auto Body Book and I will need to know:
Test 1
Applied Work Practices and Procedures
Safety
Applied Calculations
Applied Communications
Tools and Equiptment
Oxyacetylene Heating and Cutting
Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG)
Body and Frame Repair
Bumper Systems
Automotive Glass
Trim Hardware
Measuring Systems
Body Panel Repair
Refinishing
Spray Guns
Spray Booths
Refinishing Paint Identification and Composition
Preparation, Priming and Painting
Vehicle Detailing
Applied Mechanical Systems
Electrical Systems
Fuel Supply Systems
Engine Cooling Systems
Tires and Rims
Vehicle Safety
Ozone Depletion
Test 2
Applied Work Practices and Procedures
Safety
Applied Calculations
Applied Communications
Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) and Compression Spot Welding
Plastic Welding
Shielded Metal Arc Welding
Body And Frame Repair
Corrosion Protection
Automotive Glass
Trim, Hardware and Restraint Systems
Measuring and Anchoring Systems
Body Panel Repair
Rigid Plastic Repair
Refinishing
Preparation and Priming
Topcoat Application (complete)
Refinishing Air Compressors
Vehicle Detailing
Applied Mechanical Systems
Electrical Systems
Air Conditioning Systems
Heating Systems an Controls
Exhaust Systems
The third test is for the license and will cover everything. You will see some overlap on test 2 and the book breaks it down in more detail and has more things you need to know. I will try and explain this more as we go. Test 1 seems more to deal with causes and theory while Test 2 is more on actual repairs. I know the final test is written at the ministry rather then the school but I think the first two are written at the auto body college.
