Since everyone else is putting up videos I figured I would give it a go!

The car ready to go. Its hard to see in the photos but it has white primer on the roof, decklid, and l 1/4

the paint

the basecoat and midcoat gun

Spraying midcoat video is in two as I had to refill with paint

the clear

Awesome vids Ryan!

Curious about your gun setup?? Looks like 80% overlap and around a 12" from panel? 1.4 tip?

In which video are you refering to? The base is sprayed with 1 wet coat at about an 8 inch distance to get coverage and a orientation coat at 12 inches. I used a 1.3 for base. With clear I used my W400 with a 1.4. My spraying distance was about 6 or 7 inches. It looks kinds far in the video but I think its the angle of the camera.

Oh ya I have always used an overlap like that. Don't know if its the right way or not its how I've always painted.

I use spies clears and sealers mostly along with some of the DuPont clears. Spies waterborn doesn't have very good colormatch on domestic cars. They are really pushing the DuPont base. Our jobber carries both lines so I kinda pick the best of both. My heart belongs to spies though! Touching isn't it!

I like seeing how other guys spray.. I think if I made that many passes with my clear over the same spot it would run off the panel Looked slick as glass brother.. Hell of a fine job

The sata is faster but a little heavier looking finish. The iwata puts out a little bit better finish for me and I feel more in control of it. If I painted the same car twice and told you to pick out which car was sprayed with which gun I don't think you could.
The iwata is a little finicky. I have found that it sprays nicer with the fan adjusted in quite a bit. The actual fan size doesn't seem to change but it wets up the car nicer. Also I don't think Iwata's recommended pressure is all that hot. It needs to be bumped up a few psi. I spray the W400 at 27-30psi. Also a 1.4 Iwata sprays like a 1.3 Sata

I should also point out that I have been a pretty die-hard Iwata guy for about 4 years now. If I had spent that time working with an RP I might have a different opinion. I do love my RP3000 though. Both very nice guns its just a matter of what you are more comfortable with. If you haven't used one you should give one a try.
