Yep! I know what youre talking about. I have been using cbp for about a year now after using sherwin for almost ten years. Color build is ok but not the best primer out there. I have better luck using a smaller nozzle and going light with my coats. It seems to be a good primer in the summer but cold temps dont do this primer any justice. Read More...
I am spraying Sikkens solvent and when I looked it up it only shows it as being a normal base clear. Did a sprayout today when I jambed out the hood and the color looked good, but it didnt have the pop or depth that a tri stage would have, so what do I need to do, add some base to my clear? I might call the help desk in the morning and see what they say as well. The last two jobs in the shop were the same color but they were blended out as normal and looked fine, didnt tint the clear or anything.
Chuck
I wouldnt put any base in your clear. It may be a tri coat. I have sanded alot of those colors and they do come off red. Some paint mfgs may do it in a tri but sikkens may have it close enough with a two coat. Read More...
I feel the same way about the CVI. The Tekna is good for clear but I would pick the Iwata or Sata above it. If you really like the Supernova I wouldn't let under a hundred bucks sway you.
No kidding UPP,Iwata is more money than a sata in my area also, kinda funny that everyone says Iwata is cheaper You can't go wrong with a sata in my book I think they are made tougher also.Just throwing this out there but have you tried a tekna with a 7e7 cap?I have been very impressed with mine for base,it also does a good job with clear, but it is not as fast as an rp.
You know, I have thought about that tekna. I just kinda have a bad taste in my mouth from a CVI I bought a few years ago. That was the biggest waste of money. I bought it after it had so many rave reviews on an other forum. The same one that say there is nothing better than a PLUS GUN! That quick clean does look sweet though. Read More...
So I have used the 4000 rp with a 1.3 for a few days. I seem to like it fairly well. Im my opinion it sprays nicer than a 3000. I know alot of you guys like the 3000 better but I like the softer spray of the 4000. It did seem slower than the 3000 for some reason. The last job I did with it was an f-250 super duty hood an fenders. It was a slick job! The hood is where I noticed the slower speed. It seems like a well built gun, it was a digital version and it was probably the most uncomfortable gus I have ever used. Any one know if the non digital is better?
All in all, I have tried the supernova ls400 with a 1.3 and thought it was very confortable but just slow. A nozzle change will help that though. I am leaning towards the LS, I just love the quiet soft spray pattern and it did really well with energy pro and HS plus. But the sata does too. I think the LS has the edge when it comes to the enegy pro though. Im still on the fence if I shoud convert my LPH over to a W400LV. Its a cheaper route but pricey if I dont like it. At least I have used the LS and 4000 and know how they spray. Read More...
I have got to be honest here. I have always started in the middle and worked my way out. That was with sherwin CC639 and CC950. I never had any problems with it melting but I always used the slowest reducers when doing an overall. I am 6'2 and can reach over halfway on hoods and roofs on most cars. I have tried to work my way in and never felt that comfortable doing it. Read More...
Ok thanks Jayson. As far ans the noise thing, Im sure some people dont mind, but I have been using the LPH400 fore a few years now and then going to a 3000 rp at 33-34 psi is quite a bit louder than what im use to. Im sure I could get use to it after a while. Read More...
Sikkens is starting to come around for me. Whats so bad about energy pro? Its ten times better than pro air. I have pretty good luck with it. So what would you guys spray if you were still using solvent? I have to use something like HS+ for big jobs due to the fact that energy pro is too fast.
By the way, the supernova is a 1.3, so I could bump to 1.4 or try the hybrid for more speed. Read More...
Have any of you guys used the LS400 hybrid? Just curious how it sprays. I have been demoing the hvlp ls400 silver cap gun for the past week. Ive got to say, I was sceptical at first but I really like it for energy pro and HS+. I never thought it would spray energy pro like it does due to how slow it is. Its pretty slow, slower than I would like but it does me a great job. I have no plans of buying one right now, that is not until I demo the Hybrid and a sata 4000RP. Read More...
No it only needs a max pressure of 32 psi now, they changed the nozzle setup and it is pretty quiet.Honestly I don't mind the 4000,don't find it finicky either, just a little slow and hot weather can be a pain even with a 1.4.My biggest complaint is it doesn't put out enough material, but if you don't mind a slower gun it is fine.I am not a big fan of the 3000 either,I keep going back to my first gen rp with a 1.4,the other 2 sit in my toolbox.
Thats good to know. I have been thinking about picking a 4000 up. Im glad to hear that it quieter. Not to crazy about hearing that its slower than the 3000. The 3000 I have been using has a 1.3. Maybe if I should go with a 1.4 in the 4000? just to get some more speed out of it? I have trouble getting around a bumper cover using my LPH400 when spraying energy pro with spot and panel activator. Thats why I started using the 3000 RP. I dont want that to be the case with an expensive 4000. Read More...
Man this post is a blast from the past. I guess I should update, stick with the 3000. After using the 4000 for a bit I think the 3000 is a better gun. The 4000 can lay a flat coat of clear but it is slower and more finicky.
I been using a co workers 3000 RP 1.3. It works well for me but its sooo loud at 33psi. One of our reps told me to crank it up yo 35? It really kicks at that pressure. Does the 4000 require that much pressure? Read More...
The Tekna for clear does an good job. Not as good as the W400 or the RP. it feels better built than the Iwata, but not as good as the Sata. with a little tweaking it can put out almost as good of a job as my RP.
I kinda like my W400lv for HS+ honestly. I think it lays it on a bit flatter than my RP. With that said I am not a huge fan of HS+ as I find it a quirky bitch sometimes. You can convert your LPH into a W with just a nozzle and aircap.
I like my 3000 Sata more than the 4000. The 4000 can lay a flatter job but the 3000 just seams easier.
Thanks for the info Ryan and everyone else. It seems that all three guns get the job done. Everybody has their favorate. I am partial to Iwata and its probably my first pick. I didnt know that the LPH could be converted. Thats a cheap alternative. I with you on the HS+ thing. Im gonna burn another gallon or so to get the hang of it. If not im gonna try some lesonal glamor or universal. What size tip do you recomend on all three of the guns? Read More...
