So here we have the sanding of the spot putty. The spot putty gets sanded down with 220. I usually take it all the way down with 220. You will start to see some of the other layers starting to pop through which is quite normal. I am just concerned with working out the kinks for now. After it is sanded down, I follow it up with SEM High build primer in the areas where I have been working. This is a good time to peel back all the paper as well.

Now it is time to prep the rest of the grill. Since this is a used grill and the fact it is a grill which means that it was used in the front of the car proves the point that it had small knicks here or there. Those are easily sanded out with 320 grit sand paper. Feather (even out) the primer from the previous working area into the plastic area and sand the rest of the grill with 320. This will knock down any trouble areas and will promote adhesion for the primer to come. After sanding it down, it is a good idea to clean it up again with some water based wax and grease remover.

Here is the rill with a coat of Duplicolor primer. After dried, it gets sanded down with soapy water and 400 grit sand paper. Use palm-olive original soap mixed with water in a spray bottle. Rinse thoroughly when finished sanding.

Here is the grill with its final coat of primer. which is SEM High build. As you can see, it gets a lot of primer and a lot of sanding from the beginning. Now this gets sanded down with 600 grit. This is all to eliminate sanding scratches when the basecoat is sprayed, to give a superb final product. Each coat of primer builds on the next and fills in finer sanding scratches from the previous!

It was used once and came with the boxes, manuals and all the packaging. I did find that the local guys way out to lunch on pricing for things like air caps (they wanted $200) - RatStang helped me out with a cap at a reasonable price.

I paid $370 for mine a few years ago from a paint and supply store thats about an hour from me.

I just picked up another one from the painter at the body shop next door from me, He used it 3 times (he's more of a Sata guy), its just like new. I got it for $200 cash.

admin created a new topic Site update - few notes in the forums.
After seeing this application I knew I had to try it here, it gives some pretty neat (facebook style) features that you can use if you like. I tried to keep the layout the same with the latest posts on the right for the people that don't like the new stuff they should be able to continue using the site the same way.

The main incentive was the facebook connect and simplified registration process to encourage more signups. Based on the traffic we get here there should be more registrations so this may help. On to the features:

Site Feed - I really like this, it show's the latest things happening, what other users are doing, posting...etc. Keeps you in the loop all on the main page, you don't even need to enter the forum if you don't plan to reply. If you are set to automatically log in this is the first screen you see, otherwise you can click home or even the logo in the top left if you log in manually (once logged in).

Media - you can now post your photo's, video links (etc youtube) into your own personally gallery's that show up on the site feed.

Privacy Settings - in your profile you can select your privacy settings. for instance if you create personal photo galleries you can choose only to show them to freinds or all registered users rather then anybody visiting. Same goes with your general profile.

Enhanced profile and integration - your profile page has a few new features. The status update has changed a bit but more or less the same. It gets announced in the site feed when you change it. Users all have comment walls for you to drop a line.

There is quite a few plugins for future additions should there be a need. There is a great quiz plugin i'm eyeballing for the annual paint quiz that will help keep entertaining and in the site feed. I know many people don't like change but I think you'll find once you get used to the layout you'll find yourself clicking through the site a lot less and getting the information faster.

I am still putting the finishing touches on, let me know what you think so far.

As for the title it is clean and not branded. I'm not going to go through the hassle of going through the dmv's process. I have all my receipts and everything in order. SHould I reprime the whole truck of just the areas that need some body work. I think there is only a couple dents in the bed that need fixed. I will get some pictures tomorrow. Thanks for every ones help.
