The Doctor Who season seven finale marked the end of an era, but the upcoming premiere of season eight will usher in a new one as Peter Capaldi takes over the iconic “Doctor” role. Showrunner Steven Moffat has promised that the next season will change things up in a way that hasn’t been seen since the rebooted series began, and an early teaser for the next season framed the Doctor as a distinctly imposing and even frightening figure.

Continuing that theme, a new and slightly longer teaser for season eight shows the Doctor once again silhouetted against the backdrop of the TARDIS in flames as he asks Clara a chilling question. The tidbits about season eight that we’ve heard so far have indicated that Clara won’t be immediately accepting of the Doctor’s new face, especially since every new regeneration tends to come with its own slight personality change – something that her line in this teaser certainly reflects.

In light of all that happened in the final few episodes of season seven, it’s understandable that the Doctor would be having a crisis over whether or not he’s really a good man, and the fact that Clara doesn’t seem to be sure of the answer probably isn’t a good sign. To accompany the teaser, the BBC has also released a new promotional image for Doctor Who that shows the Doctor and Clara posing inside the TARDIS. Who knows what planet they’ll end up on next.

Whovians who were hoping for a sneak peek at Doctor Who season eight during San Diego Comic Con next month will be disappointed to hear that there won’t be a Doctor Who panel at the convention this year. Nerdist broke the news, explaining that the Doctor Who cast will still be busy filming during SDCC, since production on season eight doesn’t wrap until early August.

To make up for the absence, however, the Doctor Who cast and creators will be going on a world tour starting in August, which will span five continents, seven cities and twelve days. Apparently the show’s splendor could not be contained in a single SDCC panel.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One And BBC America on August 23rd, 2014.

After eight months of wishing we had our own TARDIS so we could skip all the waiting between Matt Smith’s exit and Peter Capaldi’s entrance, the highly anticipated eighth season of Doctor Who FINALLY premieres this Saturday, August 23 on BBC America. To celebrate the occasion, BBC America has released a handful of new photos from the feature-length Season 8 premiere, titled “Deep Breath.”

In case you’ve missed the trailers, “Deep Breath” finds the Doctor in Victorian London, where there’s a dinosaur (yes, a dinosaur) running rampant in the Thames (hey, at least it’s not a spaceship again). And as if that’s not enough to worry about, the Doctor must also figure out what’s causing the deadly spontaneous combustions occurring throughout the city while also adjusting to a new body yet again. Joining the Doctor and Clara for the ride are Strax, Madame Vastra, and Jenny—as you’ll see in the photo gallery below. So grab your nearest Whovian pal, check out the new episode stills, and get excited for a darker, older, but probably-not-any-wiser Doctor!

The season 8 premiere episode of Doctor Who, entitled “Deep Breath,” has an air date set for this Saturday, August 23, 2014 and the BBC just released some great new images from the premiere to get us even more excited. We’ve seen a handful of teasers, and extended trailer and even some interviews, but these images from the first episode of the year and Peter Capaldi’s series-leading role have us ecstatic for the weekend!

Thanks to the wonderful BBC and the official Doctor Who Facebook page, we have a nice group of images from “Deep Breath” to share with you! It looks like we’ll see some familiar season 7 characters returning right away in season 8, which is of course more than welcome for us Whovians.

It’s so nice to see Madame Vastra back in action after the 50th anniversary special. Plus Strax is back as well! Though we don’t see her in any of these new photos, we can assume Jenny Flint will be back for another adventure this weekend, too!

“Doctor Who” fans, get ready to take a “Deep Breath.” The “Doctor Who” Season 8 premiere has a new trailer as a well as an official return date of Aug. 23.

In the new “Doctor Who” trailer, Peter Capaldi takes over for Matt Smith, and he’s having a bit of an identity crisis. The trailer is just 15 seconds long and BBC continues to tease the new Doctor. “Clara, be my pal, tell me, am I a good man,” the new Doctor says to his companion. Clara replies, “I don’t think I know who the Docotor is anymore.”
