Today we are making the big switch to Mosaic. We have been spraying Cromax Pro for the last 6 years. And Chroma Premier before that. The first few years were kinda rough. Color match wise Then they came out with the new color decks and the new camera and it wasn’t all that bad. Fast product but expensive. Lately we have been having problems with the toners “chunking up”. Don’t really know what to call it. There’s a ‘skin” on the lid when we would first open the toner that we were told to take off and through away and when straining our mixed bases the strainers would be filled with chunks. This would lead to chunks getting sprayed onto the panels. Of coarse we were the only shop that was having this problem. Ha. Found out differently not too long ago. I guess they are atoning it to that our jobber doesn’t move enough of the product to keep it fresh. So we chose to switch to Mosaic. I will keep you all posted as to how it goes.

I have used mosaic on my last few jobs. So far I like spraying it. The axalta rep was in last week and wants me to spray cromax pro instead. Going to send me to training. Will be good to know how to spray it and maybe some tricks with the clears but I don’t know if I will use any at work.

    I hope it works out.

Day 1 went very well. This stuff sprays nice. Good coverage. Ability to nib sand base coat unlike water. Quick flash. Great color match so far. Metallic lays down nice. Only thing I noticed so far is the rep said the color decks only go back to 2000, but they are working on it. You do use the same camera as chromax pro. And the metallic is in powder form, unlike the water. Rep said that in in the process of being switched to wet metallic bases as well. So far, love this stuff.

Yes, Metallics are in powder form then mixed in like a normal tint. I attached some photos of the new mix bank and of the powder metallic.

I had a hard color to match in the mosaic on my last job. 2013 VW Jetta LD7X. The standard is blue then I had a part scanned and was too light and then I had one of the paint techs come and scan it and modify the formula a bit. It got alot better and seems to have blended fine. I will get a better idea tomorrow. I did not use the blending additive for the base coat. The metallic laid down better than the factory. Tomorrow I have chrysler PXR so should be easy.

I used the far right on the car, can take pics of it tomorrow.
