Hey guys... my old gun just wont spray primer good at all. I have always fought it and never liked it.

So I was at the point that I needed to prime the car so I used my iwata lph400 and reduced the primer with acetone and went for it. I couldn't believe how awesome it came out. There wasn't any orange peel at all and looks great.

My question is, will it hurt my gun if I spray primer through it? I read somewhere that the primer is abrasive and could cause gun quality to diminish over time? Is this true or should I continue to use it? I was thinking about buying a Harbor freight gun for primer next time I go there.

I have a primer gun and that is all i use it for. It sucks that you took such a nice clear gun and put primer in it. primer is hard to clean out and can cause problems when going to spray base/clear.

I would give a deep cleaning to your LPH and leave it for clear and get a HF gun for primer. You can still get good results spraying primer out of one of those HF guns or just get a name brand one. You already know about buying quality, you have an iwata

Thanks, I took it all apart and sprayed acetone through it a few times. I always clean my guns very well. In fact if you were to look at them you would think they are new still.

If they are cleaned good are they okay to use or is it harmful on them is my question?

if it is all clean, then it is good to go, i would probably clean it up with some wax and greaser remover to be safe

W&G remover? I have never heard of doing that? Spray it through it and wipe it down with it? Hummm, learn something different all the time.

I see no reason why primer would hurt your gun (as you put it). Whatever product you put through your gun will block it up if you don't clean it right afterwards, and primer is no different. Just strip & clean it thoroughly like you have done, and all will be well

I've never heard of anyone cleaning a gun with W&G though. I'm not saying it can't be done, I just haven't heard of it, and can see no advantage over what you've already used.

it is a simple step that takes not but 2 minutes. it sucks because you cant see contaminants

I shoot sealer, base, clear and occasionally thinned down 2k thru my LPH400.. It sprays SPI regular 2k perfect thru it non reduced

I might try it non-reduced tomorrow evening if I can get the car ready in time. I cant get over how bitchen it sprays.

I used a Astro gun for about 10 yrs and sprayed everything through
that one gun,it was all I had, I never had a problem.
If you clean your gun properly, you won't either.
I still use that gun for my base.

Yeah, you'll have no problem shooting primer out of your LPH400.
I've shot just about everything through mine.

I wouldn't shoot poly through it. But it wouldn't shoot it very well anyways (Tips too small.)

You can indeed wear a gun out.
But you have to remember the people that are wearing guns out are using it several times a day, 5 days a week, 250 days a year.

And sometimes even then they can get years. to even a decade out of a gun.

The guns used for thicker primer "High build/Poly's" don't usually last as long as say a base or clear gun.

But to be honest, I think it is more to do with poorer cleaning habits than it is to do with wear.

well, I tryed spraying the high build primer with just a splash of acetone and it came out great.
