hi guys i read a post about refurbing head lights sanding them down and spraying them with clear but where they glass or plastic????

i have just brought a merc e class and the headlights are shagged!! but there plastic i didnt want to start preping them if you can only do them to glass ones

any help would be great thanks

glass ones dont yellow.
the only ones that people redo are plastic

i know you can sand down with some 3000 grit (trizact system) then buff back out. i've never heard of anyone clearing their lights.

I do headlight referbs where I work but only on plastics. When the plastic starts dulling out or turns yellowish due to oxidation I usually wetsand them with 800 grit and work my way to 2000 grit and finally finishing it off with 3000. Then I just compound them and bam!.. back to new again. Unfortunately.. it only last about 6 months or so before it starts to dull again.. which is what I tell my customers so they know. I haven't ran across a product that can last longer than that.

Sand and clear them, it will last. I have done it for a few years now with very good luck.

yup, just sand them with 600-800 and put 2 coats of clear on them. i do atleast a few sets a week here. they will last for years.

There was a similar post on this topic about a month ago. It had some good info in it too

no, its not necessary. you will have a better bond with the clear direct to the plastic. they are usually polycarbonate, not a hard to stick plastic.

hi guys i done one side they look better im going to redo them as after the second coat they cracked up like a solvent attack?? maybe i didnt leave it to flash long enough!! but great inprovement anyhow
