Think of it this way, if you seal it with the rust stuff that's out there the rust will just grow out the other side and rot out the bottom of that area. Either way, it will suck for someone that owns the car later on.

Yeah, I agree, I thought the bar stool legs were bent so I tossed in it it the trash!

I think that I am going to sand it 80 grit and spread another fine coat of glazing putty and try to re-shape it.

It kills me when I have it so close and almost ready for paint. I know it will bug me if I dont get it perfect before paint.

Thanks again guys.

From what i can see in the pictures, you need to use an alternate with a lighter side tone. If it is sherwin ultra 7000 base coat you can add up to 10% of U7271 flatner to it. That will help lighten the side tone. Check to see if there other alt. available first though.

I've got a '98 Nissan Frontier, and last winter I bumped into a snow pile in front of my shop. It really pissed me off. It pushed the front bumper in slightly, and over to the passenger side about 1" or less. I've got to hammer out the corner of the fender and little painted strip of steel below the grill, but I'm stuck on how to move the bumper over.

Am I better off:

Welding up a little rack that can be come-along'd and pull the bumper over all at once

or

removing the bumper and straightening out the front of the frame - that's the part that is out of whack.

I'll get pics up when I get back home.

thanks a lot

It was used once and came with the boxes, manuals and all the packaging. I did find that the local guys way out to lunch on pricing for things like air caps (they wanted $200) - RatStang helped me out with a cap at a reasonable price.

SHould I reprime the whole truck of just the areas that need some body work. I think there is only a couple dents in the bed that need fixed. I will get some pictures tomorrow. Thanks for every ones help.

I dry spray like a champ. that's all it takes! haha. I wonder if it's possible to have a 'runny' bumper. I can do that as well!

Often I shoot pieces flat and with a slight texture - I do almost all interior work and custom trim. just many thin coats of rattle can flat black gets what I want most of the time. I don't like the spray texture very well because it's usually too course a texture.

for a bumper - I'd say you don't want it real course. just looking more like bare plastic bumper roughness, but consistent. try some flat rattle can as a test - just shoot something small and see what I mean. you can duplicate the idea with poly primer like suggested with several thin light coats dusted on, then a few coats of thin dusted single stage flat black. shouldn't be that hard. lots of thin coats are what keep it consistent and easier to control. trying to hog on consistent texture all at once - that's a killer

Local SF estimatics super told me just last week that three local select service shops were set to close down. I didn't ask which ones. Suppliers confirm most shops are dead or near dead. Some have trimmed days for staff.

I'm slower than usual for this time of year for me, but it is always a little down between the holidays and tax time. Gives me time to devote to restorations that I have waiting.

Had two Harleys in one day get dropped off for paint and flames. So there's always something to do.
