Nice painting bondo, your banter with ding is comical:laugh: I must be a real hoser ,I tried a sata rp 3000 with a 1.4 and I really like it.We do alot of completes and big areas of painting(like a d class motor home in wa382e bc/cc last week) at our shop.I turn my fluid in about a 1/4 turn, fan wide open, pressure at 33 psi.The sikkens clears we use are a little thicker and the training center recomends a 1.3 or a 1.4.It is interesting to see what everyone else is using.

Jayson, I used Sikkens for about 7 to 8 years. How do you like it? Which clears are you spraying? I have their new clear Superior 250 on my car and it looks great.

I always thought there clears would run easily compared to Spies or Duponts.

I use autoclear 3 and hs + mostly and some lesonal clears. This time around I have been spraying sikkens for 7 years at the shop I'm at now but I started spraying it back in the 80's.I don't find the clears to bad,the trick is to make sure your first coat is hand slick then hammer on your second.I tried glasurit 923- 109 clear and I found it to be piss thin and easy to run just like all the rm clears.Superior is a very nice clear,I did a corvette as a demo for the autowave and superior clear in november and was very impressed. Can't comment about dupont clear haven't used that stuff since the late 90's.

I demoed Autowave and Superior on the doghouse of an Explorer. It looked rather stupid, the front end looked liked it had been sanded and buffed while the rest of the car had the normal Ford finish (looked like an orange)! The only thing I don't like about that clear is it doesn't buff very well at all.

Have you ever used the Vision 2 clear?

I have never tried the vision2 clear,I don't think that will work with the autowave. We will be changing to waterborne in the next month or so.My clear choices are superior 250,HS+LV,or lesonal pro air clear.THe superior is easy to spray,I think anybody could make it look good, not like ac3.Funny story about the explorer,I always tried to get my jobs as smooth as possible. Now I try to match the texture to the rest of the vehicle. To answer your question I like sikkens,my other top choice was the old ppg dbc and 2021 concept clear, idiot proof.

That was the problem with the Superior, it would be hard to get it to match factory! Have they ever came out with their Mixit 3 system yet. When we used it they had the most outdated software there was. I always thought they had good color match, but their varient deck wasn't very accurate.

Glad I saw this post ---I have the 3000RP with a 1.3 tip also and have been trying to use it wide open---got good results with a HS clear shooting one panel but struggled with a single stage urethane on a multi panel---no runs just more texture than I hoped for--- Are you guys leaving the fan adjustment wide open or are you closing it some also?

Also-my gun goes from closed to wide open in 2.75 turns on the material knob so if they are saying to shoot clear at 2.5 turns out then that is not much different than wide open ---correct?
Last Edit: 3 years 2 months ago by smisco. Reason: typo
