How a Candy Paint Works

A candy paint works by applying a transparent dye over a high metallic color to create a high sparkle effect. The metallics reflect the color of the candy dye over top of it. This would be a three stage paint job but in the painting world a true three stage (or tri-coat) would be different. It would have a solid/metallic color on the bottom and have pearls on top of that. Here is the Candy spray out car being made:

Once I was satisfied with the match it was time to move on to the flare itself. It is for a Harley Davidson and going Crimson Red. I spray the first color until it covers completely, the second color (dye) gets sprayed until it matches my sprayout card.
